Thousands of Immigrants Receive Canadian Citizenship

Become a Canadian confirms that the yearly Citizenship Week hosted by Canada is an avenue to celebrate new citizens and discuss the roles and responsibilities that Canadian citizenship entails.

This year, the honorable minister of immigration, refugees, and citizenship attended the ceremony at Halifax and Vancouver.

Minister Fraser says:

“It was a great honor to participate in inviting over 13,500 new members to our Canadian family. It is one of the best parts of my job. Citizenship Week 2023 has allowed me to reflect on everything that being Canadian means: the freedom to live as our authentic selves, the connection to our natural world, and the opportunity to reach our full potential no matter where we came from. I am thankful every day to be Canadian, and I encourage everyone to reflect on what being Canadian means to them.”

Facts about Canada's Citizenship Week

According to an expert from Become A Canadian, Canada hosted 105 different citizenship ceremonies across all the Canadian provinces and territories. During the ceremonies, more than 13,500 new Canadians were invited to become citizens.

The ceremonies were full of emotions and thrilling experiences for the new Canadian citizens, their friends, families, and other attendees who had the chance to be a part of the occasion.

The citizenship ceremony represents the final step in becoming a Canadian citizen. Become A Canadian says during the ceremony, new citizens accept the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

They all take the Oath of Citizenship administered by a citizenship judge. This oath is what conclusively confers Canadian citizenship to the new citizens.
